Omar Hussein

I am a recent Architectural Graduate with a B Arch Degree from Boston Architectural College, and I am actively seeking to join an Architectural Firm. Although firms that specialize in high- and low-rise residential work are my preference, I am open to consider firms in the commercial, education and healthcare sectors as well.

Space in relation to experiences is an idea that has questioned my interest in design. I bring with me my travels through different spaces that harnessed my thoughts as a designer. Privacy and comfort were major themes of the spaces I occupied throughout my early life. Desert environments rarely ever act as comfortable spaces for communal living, but there was a certain beauty and mystery that the landscape of Riyadh evoked. In contrast, the hardships seen in Somaliland, a span of spaces in its infancy, proved to me a yearning for strong direction and thinking in design propositions to improve those spaces.

In my short stay in East Asia, I observed how space was at the mercy of nature, in particular rainwater. Certain spaces were built in ways that rejected the impact of these elements, while other spaces welcomed it with open arms. My time in Boston demonstrated the importance of utilizing space efficiently, as well as the patience and dedication it takes to build structures with longevity in mind.

Through these transitioning moments in my life, the definition of space has always been experimental in its term and use. The work I showcase here paints a physical picture that interprets my overall perspective on how I see space and its connection to its surroundings.
